Viral fever is a common issue among children, often accompanied by cold, cough, sore throat, or body aches. This condition spreads quickly, especially in schools and during physical activities. While viral fever is typically self-limiting, it is important to recognize the symptoms and start appropriate treatment in time.

🚨 Common Symptoms of Viral Fever in Children:

  • High fever (above 38°C)
  • Cold and cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches and fatigue
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, or vomiting
  • Headache and weakness

🤔 What Causes Viral Fever in Children?

Viral fever can be caused by several viral infections. The most common ones include:

  • Rhinovirus (causes cold and runny nose)
  • Influenza Virus (causes flu)
  • Adenovirus (affects the throat)
  • Norovirus (causes stomach infections)
  • Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Treatment for Viral Fever in Children:

  1. Fever-reducing medications: Paracetamol or ibuprofen (under a doctor’s guidance) to manage fever.
  2. Hydration: Ensure the child drinks plenty of fluids like water, coconut water, and juices to avoid dehydration.
  3. Rest: Adequate rest is crucial for the immune system to fight the infection.
  4. Cleanliness and hygiene: Encourage regular hand washing to prevent the spread of viral infections and maintain a clean environment.
  5. Gargling with warm saltwater: If the child has a sore throat, gargling with warm saltwater can be soothing.

🚨 When Should You Consult a Doctor?

  • If the fever persists for more than 3 days
  • If the child has trouble breathing or experiences wheezing
  • If there is continuous stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • If the child develops a rash or experiences convulsions
  • If the child feels extremely weak or lethargic
