Treatments offered

Injection Therapies

Anaesthesiologists use injection therapies such as cortisone injections, epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections and nerve blocks to relieve pain in various parts of the body. The aim – providing patients enough pain relief so they can function normally and perform activities of daily living independently.

Interventional Procedures

Such procedures are often used in conjunction with other methods and medications for pain relief. Nerve blocks, PRP therapy, transformational and trans laminar injections, and Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET) are some of the procedures that help in managing pain.

Abdominal Paracentesis

Another procedure where the abdominal cavity is punctured with the use of a needle to remove accumulated fluid. This procedure is used for both therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. For diagnosis, the fluid retrieved is sent for further evaluation.

Ozone Therapy

This is also used for pain in the back, legs or arms, which may be due to a herniated disc or injury. An ozone injection is given in and around the affected disc to relieve the pain.

Epidural Pain Relief

Often used during childbirth and certain surgeries, Epidural is a catheter inserted into the ‘epidural space’, located outside the membrane that protects the spinal cord. Medications and anaesthesia are then injected into the body to stop the pain. Local anaesthesia and other medications are then injected through the catheter to provide pain relief. Steroids can also be given as an epidural injection to treat back or leg pain.

Implantable Devices

These are used when other pain relief methods are unsuccessful. Devices such as Spinal Cord Stimulator or Intrathecal Pumps are implanted in patients. The Spinal Cord Stimulator activates low-level electrical signals from the spinal cord, blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain. The Intrathecal Pump is a device implanted in the body to deliver a concentrated amount of medication to the spinal fluid through a fine catheter for pain relief.

Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

The overall well-being of a patient is considered in Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation by addressing their underlying physical pain, particularly those related to movement and mobility. The Department helps people maintain, restore and maximise their physical strength, function and motion.

Psychotherapy

This treatment method is often used for psychosomatic disorders. Psychotherapy helps patients learn new ways to cope with pain and problems even as they develop a better understanding of their condition.

Our Department's Strengths

State-of-the-Art Anaesthesia Work Stations

The Department runs world-class modular operation rooms with state-of-the-art anaesthesia work stations and monitoring systems. The latter use advanced software and technology to offer extensive capabilities for ventilation, inhaled agent delivery, low-flow anaesthesia and closed-loop anaesthesia. They provide integrated monitoring and recording facilities and seamless integration with anaesthesia information systems.

Management of Specialised Surgeries

Our Anaesthesiology team has specialists managing specialised surgeries such as neurosurgeries, onco-surgeries, bariatric surgery, joint replacements, surgeries in new-borns, labour epidural pain relief and laparoscopic gynaecological and abdominal surgeries. The team also has clinical experts managing surgeries such as renal and liver transplant.
